This is part of an ongoing series of interviews I’m doing with my favourite Chinese foodies that I follow on Instagram. Come and follow the #ChineseFoodiesofIG hashtag on Instagram and leave a comment showing your support for these talented folk!

Where are you from? Where are you really from?

Haha I know this phrase too well. I was born and raised in Kingston (SW London), but parents are Chinese Malaysian. That IS a thing, though I can't speak much if any Chinese!

What does home taste like?

Spring rolls, fried noodles and fried rice! Still can't cook these better than my mum despite trying to!

Top three dim sum:

  1. Lor bak go (turnip cake)

  2. Lo mai gai (sticky rice)

  3. Char siu bao (pork buns)

My classic go–to dishes every time though the full mandatory list is at least double....

Know any good Chinese restaurants?

I live near Xi'an Impression, and I've been known to get it delivered despite literally living about two minutes’ walk from its door. Sorry not sorry. Otherwise my Chinatown fave (a frequent ask) is Young Cheung on Lisle Street.

Share a food memory:

The first time I realised coriander was a friend not a foe — eating freshly BBQ'd cumin lamb in Inner Mongolia. I think about it to this day still.

Favourite Chinese vegetable?

Kai lan. Oyster sauce. Garlic. Eat stalk first and slurp it up.

Who's your Chinese food legend?

I'll be honest, I don't really have one. I don't really follow individual chefs avidly, and I don't think one chef can cook every single dish better than others. Everyone has their speciality!

Dumpling or bao?

Dumplings EVERY time! Steamed as well. Can eat dozens if they're served to me like that. Though can't say no to a deep fried custard bun…

What’s in your fridge?

A few salad bits. Some homemade fish sauce/sugar syrup from a Thai dish I made. Beetroot. Fair bit of booze. Also loads of random condiments/sauces I've collected over the years. I eat out a lot with food blogging so when I do eat at home, it's pretty much always vegan salad!

What would you like to tell the world about Chinese food?

Quality food and cooking means higher prices. Chinese food doesn't have to just be "cheap" to be authentic and traditional.
